HOBOKEN, NJ — As Hoboken's new floodgates came down before 9 a.m. this morning, cars drove through floodwaters on other corners and police placed barricades on still others. A flood warning was issued until 12:30 p.m., as water levels have risen dangerously high. The city of Hoboken's Office of Emergency Management issued a message around 8:30 a.m. telling people to try to stay off the roads, and a state of emergency was issued later. ( READ MORE: State of Emergency Issued In Hoboken; School Superintendent Gives Update ) Forecasters said the area may get more than 4 inches of rain by the end of the day , unprecedented since Tropical Depression Ida, which took 30 lives in New Jersey in September 2021.
